THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABILITY IS CONSTANTLY PRESENT IN ALL AREAS OF EVERYDAY LIFE. HOWEVER, IT’S NOT ONLY ABOUT AN ECOLOGICAL CONSCIENCE – IT‘S ALSO ABOUT SOCIAL AWARENESS DRIVING BOTH CONSUMERS AND COMPANIES TO START RECONSIDERING HOW WE DEAL WITH TODAY’S CONCERNS.
The amfori BSCI Code of Conduct is a commitment document for amfori members and their business partners to exercise human rights due diligence and environmental protection in their global supply chains in line with internationally recognized principles.
The amfori System Manual is the document in which amfori members, their business partners, monitoring partners, and amfori stakeholders find relevant information on how the amfori BSCI System functions and on the implementation of the amfori BSCI monitoring methodology to support our members in their due diligence actions.
In 2005, the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) was founded to improve sustainability of conventional methods for growing cotton. The BCI label does not strictly stand for organically grown cotton, but rather for “more sustainable” cotton. The project involved developing more sustainable solutions for a conventional production of cotton that benefits farmers, the environment, and consumers. An essential part of this programme is training the local farmers to farm and manage their cotton fields sustainably. Better Cotton farmers must meet certain requirements regarding the use of pesticides, water efficiency, soil protection, conservation of habitats, quality of fibres and working conditions. Cotton sourced by BCI farms can be blended with conventional cotton and used for processing (so-called bulk compensation). For this reason, we do not use BCI labels on our products. We do, however, support the global movement by procuring cotton from the Better Cotton Initiative.
